Community Event
Dr Julie Moore from the University of Hertfordshire led work using with two year five classes using photographs and images from WW1. She later spoke at the community event and showed children and community members how to access and research their family histories.
The community event was well attended and featured a performance from the year five children. There was an exhibition of their work on the project so far.
There was a great deal of enthusiasm and people enjoyed seeing the children's work and learning about research techniques.

- Would they have letters and if so how would they get there?
- How would a man such as a conscientious objector in jail communicate with his family?
- Could they communicate with the family? Did they send letters?
- Did they communicate with their father in any other way other than letters?
- If children were not so close to their fathers how did they talk to them?
- How would they communicate with their father when he came back from war?
Feelings
- Will they forget about their father?
- Did children become unhappy when their father wasn’t at home?
- What do children feel if they didn’t see their dad again?
- Would a mother be upset or proud?
- Did the father feel scared at war?

- What things happen to the families of conscientious objectors?
- Were the families of COs scared?
- If your dad is in prison would you be able to see him?
- What if a teacher or their family are conscientious objectors?
- Why did children suffer when it wasn’t their fault that their father is a CO?
- Did COs suffer and why?
- Would conscientious objectors have been served in shops?
- How did the family of a CO feel like?
